ARID is the latest EP from Active Dark Filament on Weatnu Records. The cover image portrays the dichotomy created by the climate crisis, where regions of the world are victims both of fire, and paradoxically, of water. The music is sequencer-driven electronic music with many influences, including ambient, jazz, industrial and progressive rock. On this EP, there is a greater use of unusual time signatures.

Individual Tracks:

Segmented Invaders: A shimmering sequencer pattern oscillates gently and repeats until cloudy arpeggios signal the transition to a mid-tempo minor pattern with a heavily processed solo.

Arid: A darker composition with overlays various 4/4 patterns over a background 7/4 figure. Bombastic chords carry the piece to the final rhythmic conclusion.

Undergrowth: A burbling 7/4 sequence is coupled with a simple percussion pattern. This is contrasted by the long melody tones which gradually build and transform to a static, abstract ending.

Race Through Andalusia: The backbone of this piece is the 15/8 rhythmic pattern.

States of Equilibrium: An austere and introspective musical idea based on a random sequence of notes from a modified minor pentatonic scale.

Circling: A deep, pulsating synthesizer pattern is matched with a simple rhythmic 5/4 pulse. This forms the basis for a series of spiralling, cyclical melodies which rise and fall with time creating a continuous flow of sounds.
